Growing up in Czechoslovakia at the end of communism, Katarina wasn’t exposed to capitalism and western influences in her childhood. Instead she was raised with the values of saving up for meaningful things to own and treasure. She has been surrounded by fabrics and her mother sewing, from an early age she expressed curiosity to understand how are clothes made, where materials come from and with limitations & restrictions, constant questioning of meaning and purpose of design and the rewards of creating garments from initial idea to the joy of wearing it and owning it . Always knowing and caring what her materials are, how are they produced, what happens to them, she has been “repurposing” vintage and “deadstock” materials from the beginning of her journey, before it was important and accepted.Katarina understands the importance of emotional connection with garments and their roles and importance in our lives. She fiercely believes in the thought, energy and skills that are required to design and create beautiful wearable clothing.
